Women-Owned & Rural and Remote Business
As an independent film producer, actor, and writer, I draw on lessons from both Daniels College of Business and my studies in Anthropology at the University of Denver. While Daniels taught me entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, and how to build and pitch ideas, anthropology fostered a deep curiosity about people, culture, language, and human behavior. Those perspectives have proven invaluable not only in storytelling, but also in building authentic partnerships and navigating the highly relationship-driven nature of the film industry. Today, I apply those same skills while developing and financing feature films. Independent film production is remarkably similar to launching a startup. It requires raising capital, building strategic partnerships, managing budgets, leading teams, and communicating a compelling vision that investors, collaborators, and audiences all believe in. My current project, Between Us, is a feature film that I am co-producing and starring in alongside Emmy Award-winning director Katie O'Grady and PGA producer Tierney Boorboor. As we've assembled financing, partnerships, and distribution pathways, I've repeatedly found myself drawing on lessons first grounded in my experiences within my own family business and then developed further through my studies at DU. The combination of business training and a deeper understanding of people has shaped the way I approach business and filmmaking, helping me balance creative vision, strategic execution, and meaningful collaboration.
